DISASTER RESPONSE

Founded in 2019, DominicanOne is dedicated to transforming vulnerable communities across the Dominican Republic. Our mission is to deliver life-changing support through dynamic partnerships, including the provision of vital food supplies to areas impacted by food insecurity and critical relief during times of disaster. We work with local governments, churches, community leaders, and schools to ensure aid reaches “the last mile” — getting help directly to those who need it most.

In addition to providing daily support, DominicanOne plays a key role in disaster response, collaborating with local entities to address the impacts of natural disasters. We believe that lasting change comes from working together and empowering communities. Every partner plays a crucial role in our mission with each part being essential to meeting basic needs. We value the interdependence of all our efforts and the collective impact we can achieve by combining our strengths.

2020: Covid Response

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the CaribbeanOne DART team initiated a comprehensive response across Haiti, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. Before April 6, 2020 they engaged with 21,180 households in vulnerable communities across the Dominican Republic through health education and food assistance.

2020-Current: Food Assistance

Formed out of the need for a food security response during COVID-19, families in vulnerable areas are receiving vital food supplies on a recurring basis.  Since its inception in 2019, DominicanOne’s food assistance program has distributed 253,868 meals to those that need it most.

2022: Hurricane Fiona Response

CaribbeanOne has demonstrated a robust capacity for disaster response, exemplified by its swift action following Hurricane Fiona. Within 48 hours, the DART team assessed needs and delivered critical supplies, such as food, water, hygiene kits, mattresses, clothing, and medical supplies, through local churches in Higuey and Samana. Follow-up efforts ensured continued support, reaching 2,611 individuals with essential resources. A meal-packing event in Key West also prepared 25,000 non-perishable meals for distribution.

2022: Santo Domingo Flooding Response

Due to the effective response during Hurricane Fiona, CaribbeanOne was contacted by the Department of Social and Community Management, the Vice Ministry of the Presidency, and the RIAC (Community Integration and Action Network) to respond to an unexpected flooding event. Mobilizing the national team on the ground and volunteers, critical supplies, such as food, water, and hygiene kits, were delivered to 1,020 individuals.
