ABOUT HAITIONE

HaitiOne was launched in 2008 with a vision to see local and international organizations, government officials, schools, churches, and community leaders work together to have the greatest collective impact. We seek to be more effective in bringing sustainable change to Haiti as we resource each other’s strengths and expand our impact together.

HaitiOne is a collective of over 600 locally established partners. Our aim is to jointly support and advocate on behalf of the communities we serve, including facilitation of compliance and collaboration with the Haitian Government as well as voluntary reporting and coordination with public aid partners such as USAID and UN agencies.

We have a proven record of effective, efficient, and secure delivery systems, ensuring that the “last mile” of support reaches every man, woman, and child. For example, in 2016, when Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti, our community of local partners worked to facilitate support to over 750,000 individuals displaced by the storm, operating a critical assessment and delivery platform vital to the effective distribution of life-saving goods and services.

Today, over 125,000 children are served a nutritious school meal daily, collectively through the efforts of HaitiOne partners serving across Haiti.

DISASTER RESPONSE

2008: Multiple Storms

In 2008, Haiti faced significant devastation from four powerful hurricanes: Tropical Storm Fay, Hurricane Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna, and Hurricane Ike. CaribbeanOne responded by launching a comprehensive relief effort that impacted over 150,000 people. They distributed essential food supplies, facilitated the relocation of medical aid and food resources, and established campus shelters to accommodate displaced individuals.

2010: Earthquake

Following the 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010, CaribbeanOne responded by providing continuous medical support addressing the urgent healthcare needs of the affected population. CaribbeanOne implemented hygiene and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs and distributed food aid to those most in need. Additionally, by partnering with CaribbeanOne, tarps and shelters were distributed to those left homeless by the disaster. CaribbeanOne is committed to a holistic approach to rebuilding communities and providing long-term support to disaster-affected populations. Following 2010, CaribbeanOne implemented housing reconstruction efforts, building 1,070 homes by 2017 and providing crucial shelter to those affected by the disaster.

2016: Hurricane Matthew

In response to Hurricane Matthew, the CaribbeanOne DART team mobilized to aid the hundreds of thousands affected by the storm. They distributed 1.1 million pounds of essential supplies to devastated areas, ensuring 24,065 individuals had access to clean water by distributing over 4,000 aqua tabs and 920 water filters. Additionally, they provided 4,215 hygiene kits, 827 blankets, and 2,415 tarps to support shelter needs, demonstrating a concerted effort to alleviate the immediate hardships caused by the disaster.

2020: Covid Response

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the CaribbeanOne DART team initiated a comprehensive response across Haiti, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. They conducted extensive public health awareness campaigns, reaching 150,945 individuals through community health education and distributing handwashing stations, soap, and masks. Before April 6, 2020, they engaged with 21,180 households in the Dominican Republic, 25,025 in Guatemala, and 26,169 in Haiti through home visits and community centers. As the pandemic progressed, these efforts intensified, with ongoing education activities and significant distributions aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and supporting affected communities across the region.

2021: Earthquake

In response to the 2021 earthquake, the CaribbeanOne DART team demonstrated exceptional disaster response capacity by arriving at the epicenter within seven hours. CaribbeanOne DART team swiftly airlifted over 30 patients out of the impact area and procured critical supplies to support the affected communities. CaribbeanOne efforts reached 389 communities, serving 229 HaitiOne partners (LEPs) and 52,222 families. This included providing 33,099 families with three-week food kits, 5,360 families with shelter kits, and 27,087 individuals with hygiene kits. Overall, served 341,707 individuals and delivered 600 tons of food, hygiene, shelter, and medical support. Additionally, CaribbeanOne rebuilt seven schools, highlighting its commitment to immediate relief and long-term recovery.

2024: Food Insecurity

CaribbeanOne's commitment to combating hunger is demonstrated through the vast number of meals it has distributed. From a modest beginning in 1999 with 23,000 meals, the organization has scaled up its operations dramatically. By 2023, HaitiOne delivered 42,020,720 meals, amounting to 419,453,896 meals over the years. Today, CaribbeanOne is still providing food and responding to the growing levels of food insecurity in Haiti. These meals have provided 125,000 children a daily school meal in addition to months of rations of food for over 34,000 families.
